Having experienced the joy and sheer satisfaction of selling everything we owned, buying a boat and crossing an ocean with our children. the best advice we can offer anyone considering is - JUST DO IT - you won't regret it.
In 2008 we came to the conclusion that we might as well enjoy our retirement years while we still could and that's when we decided to follow the dream of sailing around the world. We had a very successful architectural business in Cape Town that we closed down and just trusted that we would find something else when the time was right.
We arrived in Antigua in January 2010 and the booming yachting industry beckoned. We decided to stay in Antigua for a while, letting the kids complete their school and we worked while living aboard our yacht Faith. We noticed the need for economically priced labour and parts as most services were geared for the very active superyacht market.
In March 2016 we started Lighthouse Yachting with a goal to offer Project Management and Brokerage services that were friendly, honest, efficient and economical.
The marina is already home to various skilled marine service providers, thereby permitting us to cater to the discerning client who prefers to leave their vessel in our capable hands with the peace of mind that they'll return to a job well done and completed on schedule.
With Peters and May adding Antigua to their sailing schedule, there's no better place to stage the loading than Jolly Harbour. Conveniently located near to St. John's where the vessels are loaded, the Marina has lot's to offer while you ready your boat for her journey.
While you enjoy the facilities at the Marina, we'll get all your paperwork done quickly and efficiently.
Due to our already well established ties within the marine industry, we continue to be Dometic Agents and can provide you with any Cruisair, Marine Air, Condaria, SeaLand, Waeco and Spot Zero products, spares and service.
Dometic is air-conditioning systems are by far the best on the market, catering to both luxury superyachts and cruisers alike. The reason most production boat have Marine Air and Cruisair units as an option is because they are reliable and their warranty support is outstanding.
Like our relationship with Dometic, we also have ties with Climma, Veco and Frigoboat. So if you're looking for that new refrigeration system for your yacht, we can provide you with a quotation for replacement parts or a complete new system including installation.
Karen has been working in the Antiguan Marine industry for many years. She's well know for her super friendly, efficient and professional manner as well as her willingness to go above and beyond.
Karen's passionate about customer service and sometimes that can be a challenge on a Caribbean Island where most things happen on 'island time'. She's established a good working relationship with many reliable contractors who understand and respect her approach to clients and their projects that require attention.
If you're looking for a refreshing new approach to getting work done on your boat or looking for someone trustworthy to take care of it in your absence, look no further.
Mike recently left his position as the Operations Manager with the Jolly Harbour Marina to join Karen in their very fast growing business, Lighthouse Yachting Ltd.
Prior to this, he managed the Sunsail Base in English Harbour for a couple of years, instituting many changes that netted previously untapped profits.
Mike has several years sailing experience, and knows the ins and outs of many different yachts due to being a delivery skipper in the Caribbean. He's well liked, knowledgeable and friendly and many trust him to move/deliver or skipper a test sail of their boats due to his inherent cautious nature.
Prior to sailing to the Caribbean with Karen and his children, Mike owned and ran an extremely successful architectural draughting business from Cape Town for over 20 years, however, the sailing bug called out and the rest is history.
